Beldon Haigh's Anti-Trump Protest Song

When was the last time you heard a protest song? Probably a long time ago. Gone are the days of Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, but lucky for us, Scottish singer-songwriter, Beldon Haigh has stepped up to the plate with his anti-Trump protest song, 'Freedom'.

Standing up to the questionable new leader from across the pond, Beldon has written a beautifully crafted song that highlights all of the businessman-come-politician's flaws. Beldon worries for the image of the world being presented to our children and young people and this is reflected in his clever and concise lyrics.

Haigh's wife is a Honduran immigrant with family in the US who worries for their well being, whilst Beldon is the father of 3 children, one of whom is mixed race, and so he is strongly against the racial prejudices of the Trump's presidency.

Beldon learnt his trade as a musician during the 80s when he played in bands such as Boxing Clever and Mikifin, and since then he has honed his craft and is also releasing an album, on which 'Freedom' features.

Beldon’s affinity for writing ballads and protest songs is demonstrated through his quality musicianship and clever storytelling, employing touches of humour in combination with substantial lyricism that always has a meaningful purpose.

As well as this, Beldon favours true musicality, utilising real musicians and real instruments to create his contemporary style of melodic pop-rock.

You can watch the video for 'Freedom' here which is made using a compilation of news and protest clips from American media- it's quite the tearjerker at times.
